Uzbekistan MIA and UNHCR Deepen Statelessness Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Affairs of Uzbekistan hosted Mahir Safarli, Head of the UNHCR Regional Representation for Central Asia, on June 10 for talks on advancing bilateral cooperation in migration and refugee protection.
During the meeting, Uzbekistan reaffirmed the particular importance it places on protecting the rights and legal interests of stateless persons. Both sides highlighted the value of Interior Ministry participation in UNHCR-convened events — including regional conferences held in Tashkent and Ashgabat — as a practical mechanism for raising staff professional standards and incorporating international best practices into domestic policy.
Safarli commended Uzbekistan's efforts in the field of human rights protection and expressed readiness to further deepen cooperation with international institutions.
The two sides concluded by agreeing to maintain constructive dialogue and pursue joint initiatives aimed at improving migration policy and strengthening the national system for protecting citizens' rights.
