Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to expand practical cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry, including investment, joint projects, technology transfer and the production of modern medicines. A memorandum was signed during a visit to Uzbekistan by a Saudi delegation led by Health Minister Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel.

The visit included an Uzbek-Saudi business dialogue and a roundtable with representatives of government agencies, medical institutions and the private sector.

Abdullo Azizov, director of the Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry, presented Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms to the Saudi side. The reforms are aimed at modernising the pharmaceutical industry, developing high-value-added production, attracting international investment and increasing the country’s export potential.

Participants were also presented with the BioPharma City pharmaceutical innovation cluster. The project envisages creating infrastructure for biotechnology development, scientific research, innovative production and international cooperation.

The memorandum provides for cooperation not only in pharmaceuticals but also in other areas of medicine. The sides intend to develop investment cooperation, implement joint projects, transfer technologies and establish production of modern medicines.

Bilateral meetings and negotiations between representatives of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia are continuing as part of the official visit by the Saudi delegation.
