“Jora Tashkentsky” Detained in Egypt, Taken to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A native of Uzbekistan known in the criminal underworld as “Jora Tashkentsky,” a so-called “thief in law,” has been detained in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh and brought to Uzbekistan to face prosecution, according to a video released by law enforcement authorities.

According to information presented in the video, the man is a Russian citizen and had lived in Dubai in recent years. A counterfeit Russian passport was found when he was detained. Authorities said he had allegedly used it to travel between several countries for many years.

The man was subsequently found guilty of a number of crimes, including robbery, extortion, as well as illegal possession of weapons and narcotic substances.

According to law enforcement authorities, in 2021 Jora Tashkentsky conspired with other individuals in Tashkent and seized two residential properties with a combined value of US$350,000.

According to the material, he used extortion to intimidate the property owner, beat him and subjected his family members to violence in order to take possession of the properties. The properties were subsequently registered in the names of his associates.

A criminal case was opened against the man under Article 165, Part 3, Clause “a” of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code. He was placed on a wanted list.

As a result of cooperation between Uzbekistan’s law enforcement agencies and international cooperation through Interpol channels, the wanted man was detained in Egypt and brought to Uzbekistan to face prosecution.
