Shavkat Mirziyoyev Reviews Construction of New Tashkent Facilities

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the construction of key facilities in New Tashkent, including campuses of two universities, the National Library and a 55,000-seat football stadium.

The president visited the New Tashkent Construction Directorate, where he was briefed using a large-scale model and digital map on ongoing construction, the location of major facilities and plans for further development.

The meeting covered the development of transport and engineering infrastructure, integration of green areas and public spaces, and the connection of New Tashkent with the existing capital. Mirziyoyev stressed the need to implement projects under a unified urban development concept while meeting quality and architectural harmony requirements.

One of the facilities visited was the campus of the Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical University, which is being built as part of the first stage of New Tashkent’s development. Construction and finishing work is nearing completion in the rectorate building and several faculty buildings.

The campus will include academic buildings, scientific laboratories, an information and resource centre, an electronic library, dormitories, and sports and cultural facilities. It is intended to create an integrated educational environment combining academic studies, scientific research and student life.

The university plans to gradually introduce international educational standards and transform its management system based on the experience of New Uzbekistan University. The educational process is planned to use modern digital platforms.

Mirziyoyev also reviewed construction of the new building of the National Library of Uzbekistan. Construction and finishing work is 90% complete, with commissioning scheduled for 2026.

The four-storey building, with an area of more than 30,000 square metres, is designed to serve 1,420 readers simultaneously. The library will have high-tech facilities for storing, cataloguing, protecting and disinfecting book collections, as well as online access to electronic databases of major national and foreign libraries.

A special educational and research environment will be created for visually impaired visitors. The building will also include a 300-seat cafe, a gallery, sports areas and recreational spaces.

Mirziyoyev instructed officials to complete construction and finishing work to a high standard and ensure proper organisation of the library collection, digital services and visitor facilities.

The next facility was the new campus of New Uzbekistan University. It is being built on a 50-hectare site and is designed for 10,000 students. In addition to academic buildings and the rectorate, the campus will include a library, museum, exhibition and multimedia halls, a sports complex, swimming pool and dormitories.

Particular attention is being paid to creating an integrated environment for education, scientific research, innovation and student life. Project representatives said educational and outreach institutions should create a modern scientific and educational environment in New Tashkent.

The president also reviewed construction of a 55,000-seat football stadium. Construction of the arena began in November 2025, and 65% of the work has been completed.

The stadium will be the main venue for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The semi-finals and final of the tournament are planned to be held there.

The six-storey complex is being built in accordance with FIFA requirements. More than 10 escalators will be provided for spectators, while the site will include three training pitches and parking for 5,500 vehicles. A metro station is also planned near the stadium.

The project includes solutions in green energy, smart management and environmental sustainability. The stadium is intended to be used not only for international competitions but also for youth sports development and the training of professional footballers.

Mirziyoyev instructed officials to complete the stadium on schedule and to a high standard, as well as ensure its integration with the transport system and the overall urban environment of New Tashkent.
