Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The ancient city of Margilan, with its two-thousand-year history, once again became a center of cultural life by hosting the international maqam festival “Great Silk Road.”
The event, held in the Park of Creators, brought together participants from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and various regions of Uzbekistan. Performers showcased maqam in different styles, with each performance carefully evaluated by the jury.
At the official award ceremony, Deputy Hokim of the region Khurshidjon Akhmedov read a congratulatory message from Hokim Khayrullo Bozorov, which emphasized: “The international music festival held in Margilan — the city that gave the world outstanding artists such as Jurakhon Sultanov, Tamarakhon, Mamurjon Uzokov, and Yusufjon Shakarjonov — has a special symbolic significance.
The art of maqam, reflecting the ancient history, rich culture, and eternal values of our people, occupies an important place in spiritual life thanks to the depth of its philosophical ideas, unique artistic style, and rich creative traditions.”
Festival participants received diplomas and commemorative gifts from the hokimiyat in recognition of their active involvement and skilled performances.
The celebration concluded with a concert featuring artistic groups and renowned performers, leaving the audience with an atmosphere of festivity and joy.
