Indian Medical Chains Seek to Open Clinics in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Major Indian hospital chains, including Apollo Hospitals, have expressed interest in opening clinics in Uzbekistan, Health Minister Eldor Adilov told journalists on 30 August 2026 during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Uzbekistan.

The minister noted that more than 10 joint projects are already being implemented with India, while five additional prospective initiatives were scheduled for launch during the Indian delegation's visit. The majority of these projects focus on the pharmaceutical sector, specifically the domestic manufacturing and localization of medicines in Uzbekistan.

The new projects are planned for implementation in Tashkent as well as regional areas. During the visit, the two sides conducted negotiations regarding specific initiatives in the Andijan and Surkhandarya regions.

Developing healthcare infrastructure represents another key area of bilateral cooperation. Adilov stated that major Indian healthcare providers, including Apollo, have expressed a desire to establish medical institutions in Uzbekistan.

The minister identified oncology and cardiology as the primary fields of medical cooperation with India. In the pharmaceutical sector, plans were set to launch the Ankavel enterprise, which will specialize in the production and localization of oncology medications.

Adilov also pointed to proton therapy—an advanced treatment method for oncological diseases—as a promising area of cooperation. He noted that the technology is already utilized in India and is included in Uzbekistan's long-term plans, though its implementation is not part of the current project phase.

During the state visit, the two nations also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in Ayurveda and other forms of traditional medicine.
