Heat Records Broken Across Several Regions of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Several regions of Uzbekistan recorded new all-time July temperature records during an extreme heatwave in mid-July 2026, Uzhydromet said.

According to the national weather service, air temperatures rose gradually, with the peak of the heatwave occurring across most of the country on 18–19 July. In the northwestern regions, the highest temperatures were recorded between 16 and 18 July.

During the period, temperatures reached 43–45 degrees Celsius across much of the country and 46–49 degrees in the southern regions and desert areas. Forecasters said the temperatures approached the highest levels ever recorded in Uzbekistan.

New absolute July temperature records were set at several meteorological stations. Bukhara recorded 46.9 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 46.2 degrees set in 2005. Navoi reached 46.5 degrees, exceeding the previous maximum of 45.9 degrees recorded in 2021. Samarkand registered 43.6 degrees, breaking the previous record of 42.4 degrees set in 1983.

Record temperatures were also registered in Nurafshan, Payshanba, Dustlik, the Arnasay district, Shakhrisabz, Sariosiyo, Andijan, Namangan, Pap, Ferghana and Kuva.

In Tashkent, the maximum air temperature reached 44.3 degrees on 19 July, just 0.3 degrees below the city's all-time temperature record of 44.6 degrees set on 18 July 1997.

According to Uzhydromet, the regional centres of the Ferghana Valley recorded new maximum temperatures two or three times over several consecutive days.

Forecasters said the extreme heat developed under the influence of a thermal depression. Under this weather pattern, a strong upper-level ridge forms over Iran, carrying a very hot air mass. As the ridge shifts northeastward, the hot air gradually spreads across Central Asia, resulting in exceptionally high temperatures.
