Mirziyoyev, Belarus Delegation Discuss Strategic Partnership

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met a Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich on 20 July.

The sides discussed the further development of the Uzbekistan-Belarus strategic partnership and the implementation of previously reached agreements.

At the beginning of the meeting, Viktor Karankevich conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to the Uzbek president from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Particular attention was given to the outcomes of Mirziyoyev's official visit to Minsk on 8–9 July, which, the participants noted, had given additional momentum to bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and economic relations.

The president stressed the importance of the timely implementation of the approved action plan, which provides for increasing bilateral trade to US$2 billion and advancing joint industrial cooperation projects in priority sectors of the economy.

The meeting also reviewed cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy. In particular, the sides discussed the use of Belarusian experience in the construction of Uzbekistan's first nuclear power plant and related infrastructure.

The discussions also covered expert support during the design, construction and operation of the future nuclear power plant, the training of national specialists for the sector, and the development of joint educational programmes between specialized higher education institutions in the two countries.
