Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A delegation from the Cultural Heritage Agency of Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Director Elmurod Najimov, visited the Republic of Korea to study advanced practices in the digital management of cultural heritage sites.

According to the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, the professional development program for five high-ranking Uzbek cultural heritage officials took place from 5 to 11 July 2026. The training was hosted at the university's campus in the city of Buyeo, as well as at the Taean Maritime Archaeological Conservation Center and other specialized institutions.

The training was organized as part of the project "Capacity Building for Digital Integrated Management and Utilization of Cultural Heritage in Uzbekistan." The initiative is being implemented commissioned by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), which operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The project aims to strengthen Uzbekistan's capacity in the digital management of cultural heritage sites, specifically focusing on assets in Tashkent and Bukhara.

During the visit, the Uzbek delegation attended lectures on the digital recording of national heritage sites and toured exhibits of artifacts recovered during underwater archaeological research. They also observed the operations of the Underwater Cultural Heritage Conservation Center at the National Research Institute of Maritime Heritage.

Additionally, the delegation visited the National Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea, meeting with the agency's Deputy Administrator, Choi Bo-gun. The sides exchanged information on the current state of cultural heritage digitalization in their respective countries and discussed future prospects for cooperation in digital information projects for national heritage sites.

The itinerary also included a visit to the Cultural Heritage Conservation Science Center of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage. There, the Uzbek specialists learned about modern restoration and conservation technologies applied to stone monuments, murals, and paper-based artifacts.
