Uzbekistan Aims to Boost Tourist Flow from Southeast Asia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting dedicated to measures for expanding the tourist flow from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, as well as the implementation of the state program for the development of domestic and pilgrimage tourism.
The event took place on 13 July 2026 in a hybrid format, organized as part of the execution of the Presidential Decree "On measures for the further development of domestic and pilgrimage tourism in the Republic of Uzbekistan" and the Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution "On additional measures to implement the 'Umrah Plus' pilgrimage tourism program."
The discussions brought together representatives from the Tourism Committee, the Committee for Religious Affairs, the Technical Regulation Agency, the regional administrations (hokimiyats) of Bukhara and Samarkand, the Tashkent City Administration, Uzbekistan Airways, Uzbekistan Airports, domestic air carriers, the Uzbekistan–Malaysia–Indonesia Travel Association, the Association of Travel Agencies for the Organization of the Umrah Pilgrimage, and approximately 40 representatives of private tourism companies.
Meeting participants reviewed key issues regarding transport and logistics support, improving the quality of tourism services, and promoting Uzbekistan's tourism potential in Southeast Asian markets.
Particular emphasis was placed on increasing the frequency of flights from Malaysia, launching direct flights to Indonesia and Singapore, developing pilgrimage tourism within the framework of the "Umrah Plus" program, bringing infrastructure for foreign pilgrims in line with international Halal standards, and strengthening partnership networks with foreign tour operators.
The meeting was held as an open dialogue based on the "problem–proposal–solution" principle. Participants addressed existing bottlenecks in the industry, exchanged practical recommendations, and evaluated new opportunities to expand bilateral tourism cooperation.
