Ferghana region and JICA discuss joint projects in Tokyo
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The governor of the Ferghana region, Khayrullo Bozorov, held a meeting in Tokyo with Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Yoshifumi Yoshikawa to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation and implementing joint projects.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Japan, Mukhsinkhodja Abdurakhmonov, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Olimjon Abdullaev.
During the talks, the sides reviewed areas for further cooperation, including infrastructure, transport, energy, education, and ecology. It was noted that cooperation with JICA plays an important role in modernizing infrastructure, developing human capital, and ensuring sustainable development in Uzbekistan.
The governor of the Ferghana region emphasized that relations between Uzbekistan and Japan have recently reached the level of a strategic partnership. Information was also presented on reforms in the region aimed at improving the investment climate, developing industry, introducing a digital economy, and supporting private entrepreneurship.
Separately, the sides discussed initiatives to introduce Japanese technologies and management experience, as well as the development of a green economy. Among the proposals were the implementation of a pilot “Smart Water Management” project, the creation of a “Green Industrial Park,” the development of tourism, medicine, and education sectors, and the launch of a Ferghana–Japan vocational education center.
JICA Senior Vice President Yoshifumi Yoshikawa highly appreciated the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan and expressed readiness to expand practical cooperation. He noted that cooperation with the Ferghana region could be considered one of the priority directions. Following the meeting, the sides agreed to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation.
