EU to spend 44 million euro on anti-drug programs in Central Asia

"The EU Central Asian programs of border management and drug action, which will be in effect up to 2010, cost 44 million euro," he said.

The Central Asian offices of the UN Development Program and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime are implementing CADAP and BOMCA, he said.

Police, border and customs officers are being trained within the programs’ framework. Border checkpoints, airports and seaports are being equipped with modern instruments; analytical units are being formed; the number of drug dog handlers is growing; and systems are being deployed for monitoring the situation, Interfax reported.
