Uzbekistan Detains Drug Courier in Namangan Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Security Service officers have detained a drug courier carrying a large consignment of illegal substances in Pap district of Uzbekistan’s Namangan region.

According to the State Security Service press service, a Voyah vehicle traveling on the Kokand–Tashkent route was stopped at a road patrol checkpoint for inspection. The driver was a 31-year-old resident of Tashkent.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found a black plastic bag under the seat. It contained 1,178 grams of hashish as well as eight tablets of the strong-acting drug Regapen.

Investigators said the suspect was transporting the illegal substances for subsequent sale in Tashkent.

A criminal case has been opened. The man has been taken into custody and a preliminary investigation is ongoing.
