Ebola virus poses no threat to Uzbekistan — health authorities
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Information Service of the Committee for Sanitary-Epidemiological Wellbeing and Public Health of Uzbekistan has stated that the Ebola virus does not pose a threat to the country.
According to the authority, the epidemiological situation in Uzbekistan remains stable, and the risk of infection spread is assessed as low.
The committee noted that Ebola is a severe infectious disease primarily concentrated on the African continent. This year, 263 confirmed cases have been registered in Africa, with the main outbreak remaining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
It is also reported that the World Health Organization assesses the likelihood of a global Ebola pandemic as low.
In Uzbekistan, preventive measures are in place to prevent the possible importation of the infection, including medical monitoring of citizens entering the country through border checkpoints.
Ebola is transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected humans or animals, including blood and other secretions. There is no specific cure, and treatment is supportive and symptom-based.
The statement also recommends that citizens avoid travel to countries with active outbreaks. Preventive guidance includes avoiding contact with wild animals, refraining from consuming bushmeat or raw food, maintaining hand hygiene, using safe drinking water, and seeking medical attention if symptoms occur after travel to affected regions.
