Behruz Karimov Joins Swiss Club Lugano
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan national team defender Behruz Karimov has signed a contract with Swiss club Lugano and will continue his career in the Swiss championship. The Uzbekistan Football Association announced the transfer of the 19-year-old player.
Karimov was born on 7 August 2007 and trained at the Odil Junior academy. He later played for Tashkent-based Olympic before joining Surkhan of Termez in February 2025.
The right-back quickly made an impact in the Uzbekistan championship and was called up to the national team. At the 2026 World Cup, Karimov started in Uzbekistan’s matches against Colombia and Portugal.
Founded in 1908, Lugano is one of Switzerland’s oldest football clubs. The team has won the national championship three times and the Swiss Cup four times.
In the 2025/26 season, Lugano finished third in the Swiss Super League. In 38 matches, the club recorded 19 wins, 10 draws and nine defeats, collecting 67 points.
As a result of the season, Lugano qualified for the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds.
