Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A new energy infrastructure is planned to be developed in Karakalpakstan to supply data centers with a total capacity of 1 GW. The project envisages the construction of a technopark in Nukus district and its supply with electricity from renewable sources, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan said.
In accordance with instructions from the President of Uzbekistan, a technopark will be established in Nukus district, comprising data centers with a total capacity of 1 GW. The facilities are planned to operate using “green” energy.
As part of the project, new electricity infrastructure will be built in Karakalpakstan to connect prospective wind power plants with the data centers. In particular, a new 500/220 kV substation and an additional 220 kV power transmission line are planned to be constructed.
The new infrastructure will enable the data centers in Nukus to be connected to wind power plants in the region with a combined capacity of 3.3 GW. At the same time, electricity supplies to the data centers will be organized without affecting existing electricity consumption by households and economic sectors.
For this purpose, the data centers are planned to be concentrated in a separate area and provided with the necessary energy infrastructure as a single complex. According to the Energy Ministry, locating large facilities in one area will help optimize infrastructure costs and improve the efficiency of electricity supply.
The data centers are expected to provide digital services and high-tech solutions not only for Uzbekistan but also for the wider region.
The first stage of the new energy infrastructure is planned to be commissioned in the second half of 2027. The infrastructure is expected to reach full capacity in the second half of 2028.
The project is expected to create conditions for integrating the new data centers into the power system, attracting high-tech investment and making more efficient use of Karakalpakstan’s energy potential.
