Yandex Maps Updates Street Panoramas of Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Yandex Maps has completed a major update of its street panoramas in Tashkent.

During the survey, a panoramic imaging vehicle covered more than 3,400 kilometres of streets and roads, producing around 130,000 panoramas for the digital map. The project was carried out with the support of the Tashkent city administration.

The updated imagery allows users to study routes in advance, locate building entrances, identify nearby landmarks and view changes to the city's infrastructure.

The service now includes new panoramas of several landmark locations in the capital, including New Uzbekistan Park, Magic City amusement park, Tashkent City Mall and the Olympic Village. Images of Amir Temur Avenue, Shota Rustaveli Street, Babur Street, Furkat Street and other major roads have also been updated.

Abdurakhman Bakhtiev, Deputy Hokim of Tashkent, said the development of digital infrastructure is an important part of efforts to improve the urban environment. According to him, up-to-date panoramic images reflect changes in urban development, the expansion of the transport network and new infrastructure projects, while the joint project with Yandex Uzbekistan helps improve navigation for residents and visitors.

Sardor Kadyrov, Vice President for Strategic Development at Yandex Uzbekistan, said panoramic imaging is used not only for virtual city tours but also to update the digital map.

Computer vision technologies analyse road signs, lane markings, traffic lights and other elements of urban infrastructure, enabling map data to be updated promptly and improving navigation accuracy.

Users of the mobile application can view panoramas by selecting the corresponding map layer. The service also allows virtual walks through the city and helps users familiarise themselves with locations before travelling or visiting new destinations.
