Two Detained in Tashkent Over South Korea Job Scam
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement officers in Tashkent's Chilanzar district have detained two people suspected of fraud after they allegedly promised to arrange employment in South Korea.
The press service of the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan said the suspects, identified as A.H. and N.A., gained the trust of a citizen identified as A.S. and offered, for US$55,000, to arrange employment in South Korea and obtain a residence permit through what they claimed were their high-ranking contacts.
The suspects were caught in the act while receiving US$25,000, which investigators said was part of the previously agreed payment.
A criminal case has been opened under the relevant articles of Uzbekistan's Criminal Code. The investigation is ongoing.
