Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — In honor of the 34th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser officially declared September 1 as Uzbekistan Independence Day in the U.S. capital.
The adopted declaration notes that the United States was among the first countries to recognize Uzbekistan’s sovereignty. According to the mayor, the official proclamation of September 1 as Uzbekistan Independence Day in Washington is not only symbolic but also reflects the strengthening ties between the peoples of the two nations.
The document emphasizes that in recent years, relations between Uzbekistan and the U.S. have reached the level of a strategic partnership, opening new opportunities to expand cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres.
It also highlights that over the years of independence, Uzbekistan has pursued a path of active economic development, strengthened ties with the international community, and built a society based on principles of peace, solidarity, and mutual respect.
The Washington Mayor’s Office expressed gratitude to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States for its significant contribution to strengthening bilateral relations, as well as for its active efforts in promoting cultural exchange and developing interpersonal contacts.
