Uzbekistan's power grid hits new record load
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The maximum load on the Unified Power System of Uzbekistan reached 13.8 GW on the evening of 19 July 2026, marking a new record and exceeding the figure set just the day before by 100 MW, the Ministry of Energy reported.
Despite it being the weekend, daily electricity consumption reached 291.8 million kWh. This is an increase of 19.2 million kWh, or 7.04%, compared to the previous summer peak of the preceding year. Daily electricity generation also remained high, reaching 295.4 million kWh.
The ministry noted that abnormally high temperatures continue to sustain heavy demand for electricity even during weekends. Meanwhile, the power grid ensures uninterrupted power supply to consumers, and emergency repair services are operating in an enhanced mode.
Over the course of the day, specialists resolved a series of emergency outages. In the Mirzo-Ulugbek district of Tashkent, grid damage temporarily left 280 consumers without electricity, though power supply was restored in less than three hours.
The largest blackout occurred in the evening in the Fergana Region, where a power grid accident cut off electricity to about 13,000 consumers across Kokand, as well as the Furkat, Dangara, Uchkuprik, and Uzbekistan districts. Power supply was fully restored after the fault was cleared during the night of 20 July 2026.
Later, a malfunction at one of Tashkent's substations left approximately 7,000 consumers in the Shaykhantahur and Almazar districts without electricity. The power supply was restored shortly after midnight.
Furthermore, throughout the evening and night, localized emergency outages were recorded in the Mirzo-Ulugbek, Sergeli, Almazar, Uchtepa, Yakkasaray, and Mirabad districts of the capital. Temporary disruptions were also observed in certain areas of the Yashnabad, Yunusabad, and Chilanzar districts of Tashkent, as well as the Zangiata and Tashkent districts of the Tashkent Region.
According to the Ministry of Energy, operational teams at energy complex enterprises continue to work in an enhanced mode to ensure reliable power supplies during peak load periods.
