Uzbekistan's One Health Experience Discussed at Congress

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's experience is being discussed at the 9th World One Health Congress in Lisbon, where a dedicated session is examining the national implementation practices of Uzbekistan, Singapore and Malawi.

The One Health approach considers the health of people, animals and plants, as well as the state of the environment, as interconnected elements of a single system. The need for such an approach stems from the fact that many factors posing risks to human health cannot be effectively addressed within a single sector.

The spread of viruses among birds is one example, as its consequences can extend beyond the poultry sector. A similar situation exists with antimicrobial resistance, which affects both healthcare and veterinary systems.

Climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation also simultaneously affect the health of people, animals and plants.

Against this backdrop, international attention to the One Health concept continues to grow. The congress in Lisbon is placing a particular focus on moving from general statements about the need to apply the approach towards practical action.

Implementing One Health principles involves cooperation among veterinary services, healthcare systems, plant protection and quarantine authorities, environmental agencies, research institutions, businesses and the public.

The discussion of Uzbekistan's experience at the international session reflects international attention to comprehensive management of risks related to human, animal and plant health, as well as the state of the environment in the country.
