Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Security services from Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan have disrupted a drug smuggling route from Afghanistan along the so-called Northern Route. Two suspected members of an international drug trafficking group were detained in the Russian city of Tyumen.

The operation was conducted by Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee in cooperation with special services from Russia and Uzbekistan.

A search of the suspects led to the seizure of 30 kg of Afghan-origin hashish. Law enforcement agencies estimate the consignment’s black-market value at around US$300,000.

Russian authorities are conducting a pre-trial investigation into the case.

Efforts to combat international drug trafficking are continuing.
