Uzbekistan’s Hydrometeorological Service Warns of Flood Risk in Nine Regions
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s hydrometeorological service, Uzhydromet, has warned of possible mudflow and flood events across nine regions of the country due to expected precipitation from 2 to 5 June.
According to the meteorological agency, the highest risk of mudflows is forecast in mountainous and foothill areas.
In Kashkadarya Region, the threat applies to the Yakkabag, Dehkanabad, Chirakchi, Kitab, Shakhrisabz, Kamashi, and Guzar districts.
In Surkhandarya Region, at-risk districts include Sariosiyo, Uzun, Altynsay, Denau, Boysun, Sherabad, Shurchi, Kumkurgan, and Muzrabot.
In Samarkand Region, the warning covers Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurabad, Koshrabot, Kattakurgan, Payariq, Jambay, and Ishtikhan districts.
In Navoi Region, mudflow hazards are expected in Hatyrchi, Navbahor, Nurata, Kanimex, and Karmana districts.
In Jizzakh Region, at-risk areas include Zomin, Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Sharof Rashidov, Forish, and Yangiabad districts.
In Tashkent Region, the warning applies to Akhangaran, Bostanlyk, Parkent, Pskent, Urtachirchik, and Yukorichirchik districts, as well as the cities of Angren and Almalyk.
In Namangan Region, possible mudflow and flood events are forecast in Pap, Kasansay, Chartak, Chust, Namangan, and Yangikurgan districts.
In Ferghana Region, the risk areas include Sokh, Shakhimardan, Ferghana, and Besharyk districts.
In Andijan Region, the warning covers Andijan, Asaka, Jalaquduq, Kurgantepa, Pakhtaabad, Izbaskan, Khojaabad, and Marhamat districts, as well as the city of Khanabad.
Uzhydromet urged residents of mountainous and foothill areas, as well as tourists and drivers traveling to high-altitude regions, to take precautionary measures.
The agency also noted that heavy rainfall in some areas may lead to water accumulation and localized flooding.
