Uzbekistan, World Bank Modernize Tax Administration

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Tax Committee of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting in Tashkent with experts from a World Bank technical assistance mission visiting the country under the Global Tax Program (GTP) from 24 to 28 August 2026, according to the Tax Committee of Uzbekistan.

The talks involved Tax Committee specialists and a World Bank delegation led by Jan Loprick, Senior Governance Specialist and Project Leader. The discussions focused on enhancing tax administration and implementing modern digital solutions.

Key agenda items included expanding the infrastructure of the Tax Data Processing and Storage Center, broadening interagency data exchange, and improving data analysis mechanisms for value-added tax (VAT) and electronic invoicing.

The participants also addressed the development of a risk-based tax audit system, examining advanced approaches to data analytics to increase the overall efficiency of tax administration.

The World Bank has long served as a key international partner for the Tax Committee in implementing structural reforms. Under previous cooperation, a large-scale tax administration modernization project was executed, focusing on automating core business processes, expanding data processing infrastructure, reducing the shadow economy, and strengthening the institutional capacity of tax authorities.

With support from the World Bank, international workshops and expert sessions have also been held regularly on digital taxation, e-commerce, tax gap analysis, and the application of advanced technologies in tax administration.

The previously implemented modernization project has been fully completed, with both parties currently finalizing the legal documentation for its closure while continuing collaboration under the Global Tax Program framework.

Following the meeting, the Tax Committee and the World Bank reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing cooperation regarding the digital transformation of tax administration in Uzbekistan.
