Uzbekistan, US lawmakers discuss stronger ties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and the United States will expand interparliamentary cooperation, including ties between legislative committees and cooperation between Uzbek regions and US states, the Senate of Uzbekistan said following a meeting between Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva and a US House of Representatives delegation.
The delegation included Jason Smith, Greg Murphy, Ronny Jackson and Edward Case. The sides discussed further development of parliamentary relations, trade and economic cooperation, investment and interaction between regions of the two countries.
The meeting noted that bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and the United States, based on open dialogue and mutual trust, have been steadily developing and have reached the level of a strategic partnership through the political will of Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Donald Trump.
Particular attention was paid to the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations. The participants highlighted cooperation between the Interparliamentary Group of the Oliy Majlis and the US Congress, as well as the activities of the Uzbekistan Caucus in the US Congress.
According to the sides, these mechanisms contribute to the systematic development of cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian areas and provide an avenue for discussing and addressing current issues through interparliamentary dialogue.
The participants considered prospects for expanding cooperation between parliamentary committees of the two countries. They also discussed opportunities to establish closer ties between Uzbekistan's regions and US states, as well as between local government authorities.
A significant part of the talks focused on trade and economic relations and investment. The sides exchanged views on joint projects in industry and agriculture, as well as support for mutually beneficial investment initiatives.
The participants also discussed labour relations and gender equality. Proposals were put forward to exchange experience and further develop cooperation in these areas.
