Uzbekistan, US Deepen Trade Ties in High-Level Talks
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The head of Uzbekistan's Presidential Administration, Saida Mirziyoyeva, met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce David Vogel on June 9 to advance trade, investment, and new areas of bilateral engagement, state media reported.
The talks centered on deepening economic ties and expanding American participation in Uzbekistan's investment and infrastructure pipeline — sectors where U.S. corporate interest has been rising, according to officials familiar with the discussions.
Mirziyoyeva stressed that momentum must translate into tangible outcomes. The priority, she indicated, is ensuring that expressed interest by American firms converts into "concrete agreements, new jobs, and expanded economic opportunities" for the country.
The two sides also reviewed the operations of the American-Uzbek Business and Investment Council, a bilateral mechanism both parties identified as a key driver of private-sector dialogue and practical cooperation between Uzbek and U.S. businesses.
No specific investment figures or deal announcements were disclosed following the meeting.
The session reflects Tashkent's broader push to diversify its foreign investment base and reduce economic dependence on regional neighbors, as Uzbekistan continues to position itself as Central Asia's most reform-oriented economy. U.S.-Uzbek trade and investment engagement has grown incrementally since President Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched sweeping liberalization reforms in 2017.
