Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan Presidential Adviser on Environmental Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov discussed the implementation of joint environmental projects with ACWA Power founder and Chairman Mohammad Abunayyan.
The sides reviewed ongoing initiatives in waste management and climate change adaptation and discussed new areas of cooperation.
One of the key topics was a US$260 million project to build a modern hazardous industrial waste management complex in Uzbekistan. The participants discussed further measures to accelerate its implementation.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia on establishing a national monitoring and early warning system for sand and dust storms.
The project includes the introduction of a modern monitoring system, integration of the national platform with international early warning systems, development of joint forecasting models and data exchange between relevant institutions.
Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their interest in further expanding cooperation and implementing joint projects involving modern environmental technologies, improved environmental safety and sustainable development in Uzbekistan.
