Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov held a video conference with South Africa's Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Parks Tau to discuss expanding bilateral trade, economic, investment, and industrial cooperation, according to the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan.

A primary focus of the talks was the preparation of an upcoming business mission of Uzbek companies to South Africa. In autumn 2026, approximately 50 enterprises from Uzbekistan are scheduled to visit Johannesburg to participate in targeted B2B meetings with South African business representatives.

The ministers also examined prospects for implementing joint projects across priority industries. Special attention was paid to establishing an Intergovernmental Commission, which is intended to serve as a key mechanism for deepening bilateral engagement.

During the meeting, the officials discussed drafting bilateral agreements on trade cooperation and investment protection. Additionally, both sides considered initiating negotiations on a Preferential Trade Agreement.

Following the discussions, Uzbekistan and South Africa agreed to continue developing joint initiatives and formulate a portfolio of prospective projects.
