Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis approved at its 18th plenary session a law introducing amendments and additions to several legislative acts of Uzbekistan.

The legislation improves mechanisms for protecting human rights and freedoms, including children’s rights, and regulates the activities of the Ombudsman and Children’s Ombudsman. The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan reported this.

The law introduces amendments aimed at strengthening liability for obstructing the lawful activities of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights, known as the Ombudsman.

Other amendments regulate parliamentary matters related to the activities of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Children’s Rights, or Children’s Ombudsman. In particular, they provide for a greater role for the Children’s Ombudsman in proceedings involving crimes committed by minors, court hearings and the enforcement of criminal penalties.

The amendments also aim to increase the accountability of officials when considering documents included in the list of measures available to the Ombudsman.

Senators said the law will contribute to improving the activities of representative bodies of state power at the local level and strengthening mechanisms to protect human rights, freedoms and legitimate interests, including those of children.

The law was approved by the senators following consideration.
