Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Andijan and the Chinese city of Haikou have established friendly and sister-city relations. Representatives of the Andijan city administration and Haikou administration signed a memorandum during an online meeting organized with the assistance of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan, Dunyo news agency reported.

Participants said the agreement creates opportunities to develop practical interregional cooperation. They also noted that reciprocal visits would contribute to further strengthening business ties between the regions.

Representatives of Andijan expressed readiness to use the region’s potential to introduce advanced production practices of companies and organizations from Haikou and develop industrial cooperation.

Teng Guichang, a member of the Haikou Municipal Party Committee and deputy mayor, said deeper cooperation between the regions of the two countries would help develop direct interaction between the cities and make more effective use of the sides’ complementary capabilities.

The sides also agreed to expand engagement between business communities by organizing reciprocal business missions and participating in joint events.

Haikou is the administrative center of Hainan Province and its political, economic, scientific and technological, cultural and transport center.

The city comprises four administrative districts — Xiuying, Longhua, Qiongshan and Meilan — as well as the National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.

According to data presented in the report, Haikou has a population of about 3 million and GDP of US$37 billion.
