Belarus and Uzbekistan to Expand Customs Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to expand cooperation in the customs sector, focusing on measures to simplify bilateral trade and increase trade turnover. The issues were discussed at a meeting between Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Vladimir Orlovsky and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Belarus Nuriddin Mamajonov. The State Customs Committee of Belarus reported the meeting.

The main focus of the talks was facilitating the growth of trade flows between the two countries. The committee said Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to double mutual trade over the next few years, in line with a goal set by the two countries’ presidents during recent talks in Minsk.

The sides also discussed implementation of the 2024 agreement between the governments of Belarus and Uzbekistan on the mutual use of electronic systems for certifying the origin of goods. The committee said the digital mechanism would help simplify trade procedures and further increase trade turnover.

The sides also noted that they had signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of the authorised economic operator status. The document provides for a number of simplifications that will be available to participants in foreign economic activity in both countries.

Following the meeting, representatives of the State Customs Committee of Belarus and the Uzbek Embassy identified prospective areas of practical cooperation aimed at further developing bilateral trade.
