Tashkent Resident Fined for Illegal Felling of 45 Trees
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Main Department of Ecology and Climate Change of Tashkent has refuted social media reports claiming that 400 trees were cut down in the Jarariq residential area of the Shaikhantakhur district. Following an inspection, environmental authorities confirmed that the reported numbers were inaccurate.
According to data from the green.tashkent.uz registry, a total of 112 trees are officially registered in the specified area.
The department clarified that the land plot was purchased by an entrepreneur in 2017, when the trees mentioned in social media posts did not yet exist. Subsequently, a local resident planted two- and three-year-old fruit and ornamental trees on the plot at his own expense.
Environmental officers established that the same resident later illegally cut down 45 trees using hired laborers and transplanted 35 saplings to the Yangi Darkhan mahalla in the Yangihayot district without following established legal procedures.
An administrative protocol was drawn up against the offender under Part 1 of Article 79 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility. He was fined 10.3 million soums, while environmental damage was assessed at 49.9 million soums.
Additionally, during a separate inspection conducted on June 24 at the Golden Art House site, specialists discovered three trees that had been cut down at the base. Materials regarding this instance have been forwarded to law enforcement agencies for legal evaluation.
