Uzbekistan Rises to 37th in Global Peace Index 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan ranked 37th among 163 countries in the Global Peace Index 2026, improving its position by 30 places from the previous year and becoming the highest-ranked country in Central Asia, according to the Global Peace Index 2026 published by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP).

Uzbekistan scored 1.726 points in the latest ranking. A year earlier, the country was ranked 67th with a score of 1.926 points, marking a significant improvement in both its position and overall score.

Among other Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan ranked 44th with 1.771 points, followed by Tajikistan in 47th place with 1.799 points. Kyrgyzstan ranked 61st with 1.853 points, while Turkmenistan took 66th place with 1.903 points.

Uzbekistan therefore ranked ahead of all other Central Asian countries, followed by Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.

The Global Peace Index assesses the level of peacefulness of countries using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators grouped into three main areas: societal safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflict, and militarization.

The first group of indicators covers the state of public safety and security, as well as factors related to crime and political instability. The second examines domestic and international conflicts, including their duration and intensity and the extent of countries’ involvement in external conflicts. The third area includes indicators related to military spending, armed forces and military capabilities.

The 2026 index covers 163 independent countries and territories, representing 99.7% of the world’s population. According to the IEP, global peacefulness continued to deteriorate in 2026, with 99 countries becoming less peaceful compared with the previous year.

Materials related to the Global Peace Index note that peace and security indicators are used to assess broader conditions in which societies and economies develop. At the same time, the index specifically measures the level of peacefulness of countries based on an established set of indicators and does not assess their attractiveness as tourist destinations.
