Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has approved at first reading a bill introducing amendments to several legislative acts to improve the work of migration and personalisation units.
The bill proposes clarifying the deadlines for registering foreign nationals and stateless persons at their place of stay. In particular, it would replace time limits currently expressed in months with periods calculated in calendar days.
According to the draft legislation, this change would make registration deadlines more precise and prevent differing interpretations of the relevant provisions in practice.
The bill also proposes amendments to several legislative acts to bring the powers and names of government bodies responsible for migration and personalisation into line with the current organisational structure.
In particular, the term “migration and citizenship processing” would be replaced with “migration and personalisation” to ensure consistent terminology across legislation.
According to lawmakers, the proposed changes are intended to help prevent illegal employment of foreign nationals and stateless persons, improve the efficiency of public services in the migration sector and harmonise relevant legal provisions.
