Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's ambassadors will take a direct role in protecting the rights of citizens working abroad and helping them resolve problems they encounter overseas, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said on 2 November at a meeting on labour migration.

One of the main channels for seeking assistance will be the Online Mahalla platform. Uzbek citizens facing difficulties while working abroad will be able to report their problems through the system. Where necessary, Uzbekistan's ambassador in the country concerned will personally become involved in resolving them.

Mirziyoyev stressed that protecting the rights of citizens working overseas must remain a постоянная responsibility of the state.

"All our compatriots working abroad are truly courageous people who work tirelessly to provide for their families and secure a future for their children," the president said.

Regional governors will also be made responsible for supporting the families and parents of labour migrants and ensuring that their children receive a quality education. Working together with diplomats, they will help citizens find employment abroad and adapt to new conditions.

"None of our compatriots working abroad should be left alone to deal with their problems," Mirziyoyev said.

The meeting also addressed preparations for the New Uzbekistan – Crossroads of Global Opportunities forum, scheduled to take place in Tashkent from 30 November to 5 December. Representatives from 52 countries are expected to attend.

Mirziyoyev instructed officials to use the event to open new export destinations and establish contacts with employers in Europe and the Middle East.

Each ambassador has been tasked with securing the participation of representatives from 50 to 100 major recruitment agencies and importing companies.
