Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan plans to build a toll road with a cement-concrete surface between Samarkand and Bukhara, reducing travel time between the two cities from five hours to around 90 minutes, according to preliminary estimates.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the plans at a meeting on the socio-economic development of Bukhara region on 4 November.
A new railway line for high-speed trains is also planned along the same route. Mirziyoyev instructed the relevant agencies to complete the master plans for both the road and railway projects and begin negotiations with potential partners.
The meeting also reviewed other projects aimed at developing the region's road infrastructure.
The reconstruction of the A-380 highway, which passes through Bukhara, is scheduled for completion this year.
In 2027, Uzbekistan plans to begin upgrading a 69-kilometre section of the M-37 highway in Bukhara region. The US$200 million project also includes the construction of a 4.5-kilometre bypass road around Bukhara.
The projects are aimed at improving transport links and accessibility across the region.
