Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has discussed engaging international consulting firm McKinsey & Company to help develop a national Industrial Development Strategy through 2035. The meeting with representatives of the US-based company was held at the Agency for Strategic Development and Reforms.
Participants reviewed the concept of the proposed strategy and the main priorities for industrial policy. The Ministry of Economy and Finance plans to engage McKinsey to provide consulting support in drafting the document.
The strategy is expected to focus on strengthening the competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s industry in regional and global markets, developing human capital and accounting for risks associated with changes in external market conditions.
It will also take into account domestic market opportunities and Uzbekistan’s process of accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Another priority will be to develop industry in line with the specific characteristics of individual sectors and regions, including at the national, regional, district and mahalla levels.
The document is also expected to incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles to assess the relevant impact.
McKinsey representatives highlighted the strategic importance of localising industrial production and expressed their readiness to cooperate with Uzbekistan in this area.
The Agency for Strategic Development and Reforms coordinates the engagement of foreign experts and consulting firms by government bodies as part of structural reforms. Its mandate was established by Presidential Decree No. UP-201, dated 30 October 2025.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold regular consultations on the main areas of the future strategy, including the industrial specialisation of regions.
