Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Tajikistan plan to simplify financing for joint investment projects and create more favourable conditions for businesses to acquire production equipment.

Amendments to an agreement between the governments of the two countries were approved by the lower house of Tajikistan’s parliament on 1 October. The changes cover the use of foreign currency, the import of technological equipment and the provision of financing to entrepreneurs.

The revised mechanisms are expected to reduce business costs when equipping production facilities. One of the measures is leasing, which will allow companies to obtain the equipment they need without paying its full cost upfront. More favourable tax and customs conditions are also envisaged for imports of technological equipment.

As of 1 October 2026, the Tajik-Uzbek investment company had approved seven projects worth a total of US$20.9 million, of which US$8.9 million had already been allocated for implementation.

The projects cover several economic sectors, including industrial production, agricultural raw material processing, food manufacturing and medical services. Their completion is expected to create more than 720 jobs.

The bilateral investment company was established in 2021 to support entrepreneurship, finance joint initiatives and develop the manufacturing sector. Its initial capital was US$12 million.

The Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan provided 75% of the capital, while Tajinvest, a state-owned enterprise in Tajikistan, contributed the remaining 25%.

In July 2026, Tajikistan’s Finance Minister Faiziddin Qahhorzoda said the company’s capital had exceeded US$50 million.

The company can finance projects, acquire stakes in existing or newly established businesses and attract funding from international financial institutions.

The agreements to amend the company’s operating conditions were formalised in a protocol signed on 26 March 2026, during Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan completed the necessary domestic procedures on 9 September.
