Uzbekistan, Malaysia strengthen small business cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Trade and Service Association of Uzbekistan and the Small and Medium Enterprises International Trade Association of Malaysia (SMITA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The signing ceremony for the document took place in an online format, Dunyo news agency reports.

Opening the event, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Karomiddin Gadoev, noted the significant, yet not fully realized potential of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. According to him, the signed memorandum should become the foundation for a strategic partnership between the small and medium-sized business ecosystems of Uzbekistan and Malaysia.

The President of SMITA, Megane Soo, emphasized that the agreement will create new opportunities for developing business ties between the members of both organizations. She also proposed holding regular meetings dedicated to participating in national and international exhibitions, as well as implementing joint projects.

The Malaysian side declared its readiness to assist in promoting Uzbek products on the country's largest electronic trading platforms, including Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop.

The Chairman of the Trade and Service Association, Zafar Khashimov, expressed confidence that the memorandum will be an important step toward expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation between the business communities of the two countries and will help entrepreneurs enter new markets.

Following the event, the parties agreed to organize mutual business missions on a regular basis. In particular, SMITA representatives plan to visit Uzbekistan with a business mission in September 2026.
