Ministry of Energy sets up commission after Tashkent power outages
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has created a special commission to investigate the causes of emergency power outages in Tashkent. The commission will analyze the circumstances of the accidents, the technical condition of the equipment, the quality of reconstruction work performed, and the effectiveness of emergency protection systems.
The decision was made following an expanded meeting dedicated to energy supply stability, countering corruption, and preparations for the autumn-winter period. The event was attended by representatives of the Presidential Administration, the General Prosecutor's Office, relevant ministries and departments, as well as leaders of local government authorities.
It was noted at the meeting that electricity consumption is expected to increase during the summer period compared to last year. In this regard, the responsible structures have been instructed to ensure the reliable operation of electrical networks, take measures to prevent emergency situations, and maintain emergency recovery teams in constant readiness.
In addition, special attention was directed toward the prompt consideration of citizens' appeals, strengthening the operation of call centers, and informing the population in a timely manner about the causes and consequences of emergency outages.
Energy efficiency was addressed as a separate issue. The leadership of the ministry criticized cases of irrational use of energy resources at large enterprises. The responsible individuals were instructed to accelerate the introduction of energy-saving technologies and the modernization of outdated equipment.
Anti-corruption issues were also reviewed during the meeting. A decision was made to dismiss all employees convicted of corruption offenses, and a special council will be established to analyze corruption risks within the sector. The heads of enterprises in the Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions were instructed to conduct a complete attestation of personnel.
In addition, measures to reduce accounts receivable and accounts payable were discussed. Leaders of organizations failing to ensure the implementation of relevant decisions received strict warnings. All heads of enterprises within the system were reminded of their personal responsibility for executing the assigned tasks.
