Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has launched three new hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 24 MW on the Oksuv River in Kashkadarya Region during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to the region, Uzbekhydroenergo reported.

The facilities were built by state-owned Uzbekhydroenergo to strengthen the region’s energy infrastructure and make greater use of the river’s hydropower potential.

The investment projects were implemented under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 497 of 20 August 2020 and Presidential Resolution No. PP-163 of 1 May 2026, “On Urgent Measures for Further Development of Hydropower.”

The new complex comprises three plants: Rabat, with a capacity of 6.2 MW; Chappasuy, with 7.5 MW; and Tamshush, with 10.3 MW. Together, they will convert the river’s water energy into electricity and add generating capacity to Uzbekistan’s power system.

Annual generation and fuel savings

The cascade is expected to generate an average of 105.1 million kWh of electricity annually, according to Uzbekhydroenergo.

The plants are projected to save around 31.5 million cubic metres of natural gas and 45,000–50,000 tonnes of coal each year. The project is also expected to reduce reliance on conventional fuels and lower harmful emissions.

The three hydropower plants are expected to supply electricity to approximately 44,000 households annually.

The launch is intended to help meet growing electricity demand, strengthen regional energy security and support Uzbekistan’s transition to a greener economy.
