Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan generated 9.1 billion kWh of green energy in January–August 2026. Over the past four years, the development of renewable energy has helped the country save more than 6.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas and prevent the release of over 14.5 million tonnes of harmful gases into the atmosphere.
The growth in renewable energy production comes amid large-scale reforms in the country’s fuel and energy sector. Foreign direct investment is being attracted to the industry, while energy system development is focused on expanding the use of renewable sources, digitalisation and improving efficiency.
The scale of the changes is reflected in generation figures. Uzbekistan produced 434 million kWh of green energy in 2022, compared with 9.1 billion kWh in the first eight months of 2026.
The country is also accelerating the implementation of its Solar Home programme, under which the state has been purchasing surplus electricity generated by household solar panels since 2021.
In 2024, more than 10,000 citizens received payments for electricity supplied to the grid. The total amount paid reached 12.1 million soums.
In January–June 2026, the number of recipients rose to nearly 70,000, while total payments reached 330.8 billion soums.
