Uzbekistan Envoys to Attend Farewell for Iran Supreme Leader
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan will send an official delegation to the farewell ceremony for Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Dunyo news agency reported. The delegation will be led by the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Nuriddin Ismoilov, and is scheduled to arrive in Iran on 3 July 2026.
Mourning events will begin on 4 July 2026 in Tehran at the Mosalla complex, which will host a mass farewell. A funeral prayer and a mourning procession will take place the following day.
Ceremonies are also planned in Qom and Mashhad, with separate events scheduled in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala, which are holy sites in Shia Islam. The final burial of Khamenei is scheduled for 9 July 2026 in Mashhad.
According to the agency, more than 30 countries have expressed readiness to participate in the ceremonies, and religious leaders from more than 90 nations have confirmed their attendance.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed the scheduled events and the readiness of officials from regional and other states to participate.
A unified national headquarters has been established to coordinate the ceremonies both inside Iran and abroad, while Iraq has formed its own coordination center.
The official farewell to Khamenei takes place nearly four months after his death on 28 February 2026, which resulted from US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
The delay was caused by the continuation of the regional conflict, the negotiation process, and the subsequent reaching of an agreement with the United States to halt the strikes.
