In Andijan, Malibu Driver Strikes Three Pedagogs on Crosswalk, Two Killed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A tragic traffic accident resulting in human casualties occurred in the city of Andijan. The driver of a Malibu 2 vehicle struck three people who were crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crosswalk.

According to the press service of the regional Road Safety Department, the incident was recorded on June 25 at approximately 17:55 on Amir Temur Street in the area of the "Yangi Buston" mahalla.

A citizen born in 1997 was behind the wheel of the vehicle. According to preliminary data from the department, the driver committed a gross violation of Clause 109 of the Traffic Rules of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which requires drivers to reduce speed in advance and yield to pedestrians when approaching unregulated crossings.

As a result of these unlawful actions, a woman and two minors were struck by the car. The sustained injuries proved fatal for two participants of the accident — they passed away. According to reports circulating on social networks, the deceased are a 49-year-old woman and her six-year-old grandson.

Eyewitnesses also claimed that the perpetrator of the accident fled the scene immediately after the collision. In published video recordings of the tragedy, it is visible that the victims were moving from the roadside toward the dividing strip, where a mesh fence is installed.

Following the fatal traffic accident, the investigative department under the Internal Affairs Department of Andijan city immediately initiated a criminal case under Paragraph "a" of Part 3 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This statute establishes liability for the violation of traffic safety or vehicle operation rules resulting in the death of two or more persons.

At present, a preventive measure in the form of detention has been selected for the suspect, and an investigation is underway.
