Smuggling of US$35,000 Hidden in Doppa Foiled at Dustlik Post

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Customs officials in Uzbekistan have foiled an attempt to illegally export a large amount of foreign currency cash across the state border. The violation was recorded at the Dustlik border customs post of the Andijan Regional Customs Administration.

During customs control, inspectors noticed a 51-year-old citizen heading to a neighboring state. Upon searching the passenger, it was revealed that the man was attempting to secretly transport cash amounting to US$35.6 thousand, having hidden the banknotes under his headwear, a national doppa.

Since the specified amount of money had not been entered into the passenger customs declaration in accordance with the procedure established by law and was not declared by the citizen during the oral inquiry, all the cash foreign currency was seized by the post officials in accordance with procedural requirements.

The agency reminded that under current regulations, individuals who are residents of the Republic of Uzbekistan have the legal right to export cash foreign currency outside the country without mandatory written declaration only within an equivalent not exceeding 100 million soums.

Currently, customs officials are continuing an official investigation into the discovery of the undeclared funds.
