Uzbekistan Continues Rural Infrastructure Development Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan is continuing the implementation of the Sustainable Rural Development Project, which is being carried out by the Ministry of Economy and Finance with financial support from the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development.

The project covers 170 mahallas in 20 districts across the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm, Bukhara and Navoi regions, where social and engineering infrastructure projects are being implemented.

During the first phase of the project in 2024–2025, more than 100 social infrastructure facilities were commissioned. Capital repairs and reconstruction of social facilities and engineering infrastructure are currently under way.

In the Khorezm Region and the Republic of Karakalpakstan, 454 priority projects have been selected following a community-based selection process.

Construction, reconstruction and repair works are being carried out in the Urgench, Khanka, Yangibazar and Khazarasp districts of the Khorezm Region, as well as the Takhiatash, Amudarya, Turtkul and Ellikkala districts of Karakalpakstan.

The project includes the construction and reconstruction of general education schools, state preschool institutions and family medical centres.

Work is also under way to asphalt internal roads, build sidewalks, modernize street lighting systems, upgrade transformer substations, reconstruct drinking water supply networks and repair irrigation infrastructure.

In the six districts of Karakalpakstan participating in the project, work covers 12 main and 34 adjacent mahallas. The programme includes the construction, reconstruction and major renovation of 38 schools, 29 state preschools, five family medical centres, 45 roads, 19 drinking water facilities, 35 power supply facilities, eight irrigation facilities, 35 pedestrian and street infrastructure facilities, and 12 mahalla service centres.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance said the project is aimed at creating modern infrastructure in rural areas, improving the quality of life of local residents and supporting the sustainable socio-economic development of the regions.
