Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Plans are underway to establish a joint Uzbek-Azerbaijani logistics center on a site fully integrated with the infrastructure of the Baku International Sea Trade Port. The project details were disclosed by the Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Khurram Teshabaev, in an interview with the Azerbaijani publication Report.az.
According to the deputy minister, the center will be directly connected to Azerbaijan's railway network and major international transport routes linking Central Asia, the South Caucasus, and Europe.
"The logistics center will carry out the functions of cargo consolidation, goods storage and handling, multimodal container transshipment, as well as expedited customs and transit clearance," Teshabaev stated.
The project gains particular relevance in light of the implementation of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway route. According to the deputy minister's assessment, this rail line will significantly increase freight traffic volumes from China and Central Asia toward the Caspian region. Under these conditions, the Baku Port is set to become a critical transit hub ensuring the subsequent delivery of cargo to European markets via the Middle Corridor.
Teshabaev noted that the implementation of the project will help optimize logistical processes, reduce delivery times along the Tashkent–Baku route, and enhance the overall competitiveness of the transport operations.
"We view this project not only as a bilateral initiative but also as an important element of the emerging Eurasian transport architecture aimed at strengthening connectivity between Asia and Europe," the deputy minister emphasized.
