Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Investment Fund May Receive Additional Capital
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — An increase in the capitalization of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Investment Fund is currently under consideration as the fund transitions toward implementing larger, more capital-intensive projects. The announcement was made by the Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Khurram Teshabaev, in an interview with the news agency Report.az.
Currently, the joint fund is actively implementing 15 projects with an aggregate value of approximately US$360 million. The active portfolio covers projects in automotive manufacturing, cotton-textile clusters, agricultural processing, the dairy industry, geology and mining, as well as transport and logistics infrastructure.
"As we transition to the implementation of more capital-intensive projects in sectors such as energy, transport infrastructure, logistics, and heavy industry, expanding the fund's capitalization appears to be a logical and economically justified step," Teshabaev stated.
The deputy minister described the fund as "one of the key instruments for the practical execution of bilateral investment initiatives" and highlighted several flagship domains. According to him, the initiatives in the automotive sector significantly bolster industrial cooperation and help establish a reliable network of local components suppliers. Concurrently, projects in agricultural processing make it possible to build sustainable value chains within the agrarian sector.
"What unites all of these projects is their strategic nature, high scalability, and their capacity to serve as a solid foundation for the further expansion of industrial cooperation," Teshabaev emphasized.
According to the deputy minister, scaling up the fund's available capital will allow for a substantial increase in the overall volume of financed projects, injecting additional momentum into the deepening investment partnership between the two nations.
