Uzbekistan Approves National Standard for Commercial Fishing Nets
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Department for the Development of Ecoterritories and Hunting Services under the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change has developed a new national standard, O'zMSt 945:2026, titled "Fishing Nets. Technical Conditions," according to official statements.
The document aims to ensure compliance with operational requirements for fishing gear, protect aquatic biological resources, and confirm that fishing nets meet technical and environmental standards.
The standard was developed in execution of Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 80, dated 9 February 2024, which mandated the creation and approval of a national standard for nets permitted in commercial fishing.
The document was formally approved by Order No. 24/MSt-26 of the Uzbekistan Institute of Standards on 21 July 2026, in accordance with the provisions approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 177, dated 30 March 2024, and has been added to the National Standards Fund of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The standard establishes structural dimensions and strength specifications for nets used in commercial fishing, requirements for raw materials, and standards intended to prevent adverse impacts on aquatic ecosystems.
The implementation of the standard is designed to ensure fishing nets comply with established regulations, enhance ecological safety during operations, and strengthen the protection of aquatic resources.
The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, together with its regional divisions, plans to take steps to implement the standard's requirements and conduct informational outreach among fishing industry representatives via media outlets and social networks.
