The document is aimed at developing political dialogue and expanding cooperation between the two countries.

The memorandum was signed following the first round of political consultations held in Tashkent. The delegation of Uzbekistan was led by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhrom Aloyev, while the Sri Lankan side was headed by Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aruni Ranaraja.
